ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – 25 July 2025: Cricket West Indies (CWI) has officially welcomed the proposal from the Bureau of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee (PMSC) on Cricket to establish a special committee focused on the future of West Indies cricket.

In a joint statement, the CWI President, Board of Directors, CEO, and Secretariat expressed deep appreciation for the ongoing interest and involvement of regional Heads of Government in shaping the direction of the game. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to open and constructive engagement with CARICOM and other stakeholders.

CWI views the proposed committee, comprising a broad cross-section of regional stakeholders, as a valuable opportunity to not only candidly address the challenges we face, but also to explore practical pathways to strengthen and sustain West Indies cricket,” the statement noted.

CWI to involve territorial boards in reform process

CWI announced it would encourage its six shareholder members — the territorial cricket boards — to participate actively and contribute insights during the committee process. This approach aims to ensure regional representation and collaboration in shaping the sport’s future.

Since 2023, CWI has participated regularly in meetings of the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket, alongside informal engagements and courtesy visits with regional leaders, underlining the board’s commitment to partnership.

Collective vision for West Indies cricket reform

We remain confident that through collective effort and a shared vision, we can return West Indies cricket to the highest standards of excellence both on and off the field,” the statement added.

The proposed committee is expected to examine structural, operational, and governance challenges while recommending reforms that will position West Indies cricket for long-term success and sustainability.
