The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) says it contacted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) immediately after being informed of an alleged corrupt approach to a player during the Delhi Premier League (DPL).
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the player involved was wicketkeeper-batter Vansh Bedi, who reported the approach to DDCA and the anti-corruption unit. The approach was allegedly made by a player from Uttar Pradesh.
DDCA turns to BCCI over alleged approach
A DDCA Official told Cricbuzz: “We have asked the BCCI with regards to this. We will abide by the BCCI advice – what they advise. Any person involved in the anti-corruption activity will not be spared. He or they will be held accountable.”
The DPL operated with anti-corruption personnel assigned across its franchises.
“The league was overseen by the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit and an anti-corruption official was attached to each team,” the DDCA Official told Cricbuzz.
DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma separately addressed the timing of the association’s communication with the national governing body.
“We are in touch with the BCCI. We wrote to them the very day we were informed about a corrupt approach,” Sharma told The Indian Express.
Bedi approach separate from Tehelka allegations
Bedi, 23, was signed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the 2025 IPL season before being released after the campaign. He subsequently went unsold at the 2026 auction.
The alleged approach reported by Bedi is separate from claims emerging from a Tehelka undercover investigation involving former Nagaland cricketer Rachit Bhatia.
As previously reported by cricexec, Bhatia allegedly negotiated over access to advance DPL team information during the undercover operation. On August 3, 2026, he allegedly supplied two possible Central Delhi Kings combinations before their match against North Delhi Strikers, with the relevant combination matching the playing XI subsequently announced after Central Delhi elected to field.
Bhatia also made allegations involving the IPL and claimed access to confidential information concerning CSK. Those claims, along with the wider allegations arising from the sting operation, have not been established by a competent authority.
BCCI widens scrutiny of state T20 leagues
The developments come as the BCCI’s anti-corruption wing increases its scrutiny of franchise-based state T20 competitions across India.
The move followed growing instances identified by the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit of bookmakers and other suspicious individuals allegedly contacting players, team owners and managers in potential breaches of cricket’s anti-corruption rules.
DDCA has said it will follow the BCCI’s direction on the reported DPL approach, leaving the matter with the sport’s established anti-corruption process for further examination.
