Australian cricket superstar Ellyse Perry is officially returning to her home state, rejoining the NSW Breakers after six seasons with Victoria — a move she describes as both “deeply personal” and professionally exciting.
The 33-year-old all-rounder, who began her elite cricket journey in New South Wales before relocating to Melbourne in 2019, is now heading back to Sydney to be closer to her family and long-time friends. The switch to Cricket NSW (CNSW) marks a symbolic return to her roots and brings a new chapter to one of the most celebrated careers in Australian women’s cricket.
“The last six years I’ve spent in Melbourne and at Cricket Victoria have been extremely fond ones and I’m incredibly grateful for all the opportunities and memories that I’ll cherish,” said Perry. “I’m really looking forward to being back in Sydney and closer to my family and longtime friends.”
“It’s been lovely to stay in touch with CNSW through the Sixers and I feel very fortunate to be walking back into a world-class program led by Leah Poulton and her staff.”
A return to where it all began
Perry’s bond with New South Wales runs deep. She played her junior and early senior cricket across CNSW’s pathway programs, before rising to international prominence. Her move to Victoria in 2019 came shortly after her public split from former Wallabies player Matt Toomua, and reflected a desire for a personal and professional reset.
“It was really very much a personal decision for family life,” Perry said at the time of her move. “I am very much a NSW girl. It is definitely sad but, at the same time, invigorating to have a new opportunity and experience in a different state.”
During her time with Victoria, Perry added to her already glittering legacy — consistently ranking among the top performers in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) while continuing to lead from the front for Australia and the Sydney Sixers.
NSW Breakers celebrate Perry’s return
The CNSW team has welcomed Perry’s return as more than just a high-profile signing — it’s a homecoming.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Ellyse back home to the Breakers,” said Leah Poulton, Head of Female Cricket at CNSW. “She’s not only one of the world’s premier cricketers, but also a role model and leader whose impact extends far beyond the field.”
“Pez’ professionalism, experience, and approach to the game make her an incredible asset to any team, and we’re excited to have her back in our program.”
Perry’s role with the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) remains unaffected, as she continues to be one of the franchise’s marquee players.
Looking ahead to the 2025 domestic season
As the NSW Breakers gear up for the 2025 WNCL season, Perry’s return strengthens the squad not just in terms of talent, but also in leadership and legacy. Her presence will be pivotal in mentoring emerging players and building a high-performance culture within the team.
For Perry, it’s a chance to close one meaningful chapter and begin another — back where it all started. Her journey now continues in the familiar blue of New South Wales, surrounded by the people and places that shaped her into the icon she is today.
