Brook leads ODI and IT20 squads against South Africa; Bethell to captain against Ireland
England Men have confirmed their squads for upcoming white-ball series against South Africa and Ireland, with matches set for September 2025. The tour features three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Vitality IT20s against South Africa, followed by a three-match IT20 series in Ireland.
The ODI series begins on Tuesday, 2 September at Headingley, while the IT20 series against Ireland kicks off on Wednesday, 17 September at Malahide in Dublin.
Harry Brook will captain England in both the ODI and IT20 series against South Africa, while Jacob Bethell will lead the IT20 squad in Ireland, becoming the youngest-ever England Men’s captain in an international match.
Sonny Baker, the Hampshire fast bowler, has earned his first England Men’s call-up following impressive performances with England Lions and in domestic white-ball formats.

Leadership opportunities and first call-ups
Jacob Bethell’s appointment as IT20 captain for the Ireland series reflects England’s focus on developing young leaders. Selector Luke Wright praised Bethell’s maturity and potential, saying, “He’s impressed with his leadership qualities ever since joining England squads.”
Sonny Baker, 21, earns a deserved call-up after standout displays for Hampshire and Manchester Originals. Wright added, “Sonny is a player we’ve tracked closely. His Lions form and domestic performances made this a natural next step.”
Test regulars have been rested from the Ireland IT20 series, with Marcus Trescothick stepping in as Head Coach for the tour.
