Fiji to host historic ICC Women’s T20 World Cup EAP Qualifier from 9 September
Suva, Fiji — The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 East-Asia Pacific (EAP) Qualifier is set to begin on Tuesday, 9 September at Albert Park in Suva, marking a major milestone for women’s cricket in the region.
This will be the largest-ever women’s cricket tournament held in the East-Asia Pacific region, with eight nations competing for one coveted spot at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, scheduled for January 2026 in Nepal.
Eight teams, one global qualifier spot
Participating teams in the EAP Qualifier:
- Group A: Japan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa
- Group B: Cook Islands, Fiji, Indonesia, Vanuatu
Opening matches on 9 September will see hosts Fiji face Cook Islands, while Japan takes on Papua New Guinea. Games will be played across two grounds at Albert Park, with the tournament final set for 15 September.
The winning team will earn a place at the Global Qualifier, moving one step closer to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Philippines to make ICC women’s debut
The tournament is also historic for the Philippines women’s team, who will make their debut in an ICC event. Their participation underscores the growing reach and impact of women’s cricket in the EAP region.
Vanuatu eyes return to global stage
Vanuatu qualified for the Global Qualifier in 2024 and famously defeated Zimbabwe during that event. This year, they aim to repeat that feat. Captain Rachel Andrew shared her team’s mindset:
“The Vanuatu team is buzzing with excitement ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup EAP Qualifier,” she said. “Our squad has a good mix of experienced players with a deep understanding of what it takes to win, and some exciting young talent.”
“We’re looking to leverage the momentum from our previous performances and are very motivated to reach the Global Qualifier once again.”
