From the crease to the studio as World Cup buzz builds
As Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign edges closer, the build-up has taken an unexpected creative turn. Former Pakistan Test cricketer Fawad Alam is preparing to release a music track aimed at energising players and supporters in the final days before the tournament begins.
The project marks Alam’s first step into singing, with the song scheduled to drop on February 5, just two days before the World Cup gets underway. A teaser shared on his Instagram account has already sparked attention among fans, with the full video confirmed for release later today.
A World Cup tribute shaped by personal history
The song, titled “Cricket Junoon Bolay”, has been developed specifically around Pakistan’s World Cup journey. The concept centres on creating a sense of momentum and emotional connection as the team prepares for another global tournament.
The lyrics and composition have been handled by Wajid Saeed, while the music video has been directed by Mohsin Talat. The creative team has positioned the release as a motivational anthem rather than a commercial crossover, aligning it closely with Pakistan’s on-field ambitions.
For Alam, the project carries personal significance. He featured in 19 Test matches, 38 One Day Internationals and 24 T20 Internationals for Pakistan, and was part of the squad that lifted the ICC T20 World Cup in 2009. That connection has shaped the tone and timing of the release, turning it into a tribute to a tournament that defined a high point of his playing career.
Alongside its musical and production elements, the project stems from Fawad’s desire to give back to the sport that shaped his career. With the national team under pressure and the global spotlight on the World Cup, he wanted to create something uplifting that could instil belief among fans and players alike.
Rather than treating it as a commercial single, Fawad envisioned the track as a gesture of solidarity—his way of contributing to Pakistan’s campaign from outside the boundary. By channeling the excitement of World Cup season into a creative project, he aimed to inspire a unified sense of passion and pride.
Pakistan’s campaign gathers pace in Sri Lanka
Away from the music release, Pakistan’s World Cup preparations are already underway. The squad has arrived in Sri Lanka and is taking a short break before resuming training ahead of competitive action.
Pakistan are scheduled to play a warm-up match against Ireland on February 4, serving as their final tune-up before competitive fixtures begin. The ICC T20 World Cup officially starts on February 7, with Pakistan opening their campaign the same day against the Netherlands.
The team will then face the United States on February 10 and Namibia on February 18. In line with the government’s directive, Pakistan will not take the field for their scheduled group match against India on February 15.
As anticipation builds both on and off the field, Alam’s musical release adds a cultural layer to Pakistan’s World Cup narrative—bridging past triumphs with present ambition just as the global stage comes back into focus.
