Georgia Elwiss and Kyle Abbott have been named the PCA Players of the Month for May 2025, following standout performances across domestic competitions and dominant showings in the PCA MVP Rankings powered by OFX.
The awards, which combine a unique algorithmic MVP scoring system with a public vote, saw Elwiss win more than 53% of the fan vote, while Abbott edged out Ed Barnard to claim the men’s prize with nearly 36% of the vote.
Georgia Elwiss shines with all-round brilliance
The Blaze all-rounder Georgia Elwiss delivered a commanding month of cricket, earning 118.15 MVP points—the highest tally among women’s players in May. She capped it off by securing her first PCA Player of the Month award.
Elwiss scored 339 runs at an average of 84.75 across the Metro Bank One Day Cup and early rounds of the Vitality Blast, including five half-centuries. She also claimed seven wickets, highlighted by a 3-35 and an 82-run effort in a dramatic tied game against Surrey in Beckenham.
Named captain of the Women’s PCA Team of the Month, Elwiss also picked up one Match MVP for her 52 runs and two wickets in the Vitality Blast opener against Warwickshire.
Elwiss said: “It’s a lovely honour. Coming into a new team, you want to make a good impression. To come away with a win on my birthday, after a tied game the day before, was really special.”
Kyle Abbott claims top men’s award with dominant bowling displays
Hampshire fast bowler Kyle Abbott earned 132.94 MVP points in May, thanks to an exceptional run in the Rothesay County Championship where he claimed 20 wickets across four matches.
Abbott secured two Match MVPs. The first came against Nottinghamshire (5-57 & 3-62 plus 67 runs), earning him 59.88 points. His second came against Warwickshire, where he took 5-47 in the first innings and helped Hampshire to an 89-run win.
He currently sits as joint-highest wicket-taker in the County Championship with 32 wickets at an average of 17.59 and an economy under 2.50.
“It’s probably one of the better starts I’ve had at Hampshire,” Abbott said. “We’ve got a young bowling group this season, so I’ve had to be on point from the first ball. I didn’t expect to win—Ed Barnard was a strong contender—but I’m proud to be recognised.”
PCA MVP Rankings: Powered by OFX
The PCA Player of the Month awards are determined using the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Rankings—a proprietary formula powered by OFX, the PCA’s Official FX partner. Rankings measure a player’s all-round impact in each match before a public vote helps finalize the monthly winners.
Fans can follow the PCA MVP rankings and full tables to see how their favorite players are performing across formats.
