The BCCI has identified a rigorous fitness program and a lack of team camaraderie as key issues following consecutive Test series losses to New Zealand and Australia. According to TOI, the BCCI, coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar recently met to discuss limiting the time players spend with their spouses or partners during extended tours. It was also mentioned that certain players prefer traveling solo and have requested separate accommodations during tours.
In light of these challenges, commentator Harsha Bhogle shared his perspective on the current situation in Indian cricket. On X, Bhogle wrote: “Reading of the changes the BCCI is apparently suggesting for the Indian team. I don’t know how much to believe but if I had to nominate one rule to be strictly applied, it would be to ban team members from having PR agencies.”

PR agencies often help cricketers manage their public image, endorsements, social media presence, and media interactions, thereby enhancing their marketability and securing lucrative endorsement deals.
India had suffered a 0-3 Test series loss against New Zealand at home in November last year, marking the first time a team had whitewashed India on their own soil. Following this, India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia for the first time in 10 years, with Team India unable to secure a win on Australian soil in the five-match series, losing 1-3.
Rohit Sharma’s team struggled with the depth required to challenge Australia consistently in Test cricket.
India now prepares for a white-ball series against England at home starting January 22, followed by the ICC Champions Trophy, set to begin on February 19.
