The Hobart Hurricanes are delighted to announce the signing of Paddy Dooley for BBL|12.

The 25-year-old left arm spinner burst onto the Big Bash scene last season, as a COVID replacement player for the Brisbane Heat.

Despite only playing one game – ironically against the Hurricanes – Dooley was one of a select few replacement players who remained in the Heat’s squad for the remainder of the season.

Although going wicketless in his BBL debut, Dooley challenged the big-hitting Hurricanes with his unique bowling style.  He almost had the prized scalp of last season’s Player of the Tournament, Ben McDermott, before he was dropped in the outfield just after notching his half century.  On that occasion, McDermott went on to make 93.

Dooley has already had a strong start to his 2022-23 season, representing his Queensland Premier League club, Western Suburbs, in the KFC T20 Max competition.  His side made it through to the semi-finals, whilst Dooley himself finished the tournament with nine wickets at an economy of six, including figures of 2-13 off his four overs in the semi-final.

“I’m really looking forward to the Big Bash again this year,” Dooley said.

“Last year was a bit of a whirlwind the way it all came about, but it was a great experience.  I’m thrilled to have been offered a contract for the full season this year and excited by what I can learn from going into a new environment.

“We fought pretty hard in that game at the ‘Gabba last year, but the Hurricanes were obviously pretty strong.  It’ll be great to be on the same side as some of those big hitters this year.”

Dooley joins Asif Ali (o/s), Faheem Ashraf (o/s), Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Caleb Jewell, Shadab Khan (o/s), Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen Joel Paris, Wil Parker, D’Arcy Short, Billy Stanlake and Matthew Wade as Hurricanes currently signed for BBL|12.
