The Hobart Hurricanes have claimed their first Weber WBBL title in front of a record home crowd, defeating the Perth Scorchers by eight wickets at Ninja Stadium.

Lizelle Lee was named player of the match, anchoring the chase with an unbeaten 77 off 44 balls as the Hurricanes passed the Scorchers total of 137 with five overs remaining.

The purple army turned out in support of their team, with the crowd of 5,251 breaking the record for a standalone women’s sporting event in Tasmania.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia Executive General Manager, Big Bash Leagues, said:

“On behalf of the League, I’d like to congratulate the Hobart Hurricanes on winning their first WBBL title.

“It has been a remarkable feat for the Club, which has now won the most recent women’s and men’s titles, and to do so tonight in front of a record crowd in Tasmania was befitting of the occasion.

“It is also important to acknowledge the Perth Scorchers and their remarkable run to the Final, making it through the Knockout and the Challenger to take on the Hurricanes in a great finale to the season.”
