ICC confronts BCCI over exclusion of ‘Pak’ from India’s Champions Trophy jersey

Must Read

India’s reported decision to exclude “Pakistan” from its jerseys and kits for next month’s ICC Champions Trophy has sparked controversy. According to media reports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued a firm response to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), emphasizing that all participating teams must follow tournament rules.

Per ICC regulations, all teams are required to display the tournament logo and the host country’s name on their kits. While India has opted to play all its matches at the Dubai International Stadium, citing a refusal to travel to Pakistan, the ICC has reportedly insisted that Pakistan remains the original host nation and India must comply with the rule.

“It is the responsibility of every team to add the tournament logo to their jerseys. All teams are obligated to comply with this rule,” an ICC official reportedly told A-Sports.

Despite these reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has stated that it is unaware of any official stance taken by the BCCI on this matter.

The Champions Trophy has already faced multiple challenges ahead of its February 19 start. From India’s refusal to play in Pakistan to unfinished preparations by the host nation, the event has been marred by controversies. Political tensions have also reportedly influenced England to consider boycotting matches against Afghanistan.

The tournament, featuring Group A teams India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, and Group B teams Australia, England, South Africa, and Afghanistan, will kick off in Pakistan, with India’s games scheduled at a neutral venue. The highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash remains a focal point of the competition.
