India’s proposed tour of Bangladesh could be postponed for a second time, with the BCCI and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) still discussing the series less than two weeks before its scheduled September 3 start, according to a report by Cricinfo. The six-match white-ball tour has been pencilled in for September after already being deferred from its original August 2025 window.
The BCB announced in January that Bangladesh would host India for three ODIs and three T20Is across Dhaka and Chattogram. The BCCI, however, has not publicly announced the tour or its itinerary, leaving the schedule unresolved as the proposed opening fixture approaches.
BCB and BCCI continue schedule talks
The latest indication of a possible change came as the BCB unveiled the Game Development Trophy, a new age-group competition scheduled to run from August 28 to September 9 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Asked about the status of the bilateral series during a press conference in Dhaka, Bangladesh Cricket Board President Tamim Iqbal said: “Both boards remain in discussion about the India series.”
The domestic tournament creates an apparent venue overlap with the period in which India is expected to visit, but the BCB has flexibility to relocate those matches if the bilateral schedule is finalised.
Iqbal added: “The dates may be shifted here or there.”
The BCB President also identified the Basundhara ground as an alternative venue available for the age-group competition. He said: “This tournament is being held in Mirpur, but it can be shifted to the Basundhara ground in two minutes.”
The domestic schedule therefore does not by itself rule out India’s visit during the proposed window. Iqbal added: “If the India series is locked and fixed, we will schedule it accordingly.”
Tour has already been postponed once
India’s visit was originally planned for August 2025 before being pushed back to September 2026. The BCB subsequently announced the three-ODI and three-T20I programme in January, with Dhaka and Chattogram selected to stage the matches.
The latest uncertainty follows an earlier period in which the tour remained dependent on approval from the Indian government. As previously reported by cricexec, the BCCI was prepared to identify a suitable window once clearance was received, while discussions were continuing with the Indian High Commission.
At that stage, no window had been finalised by the BCCI despite the BCB’s plans for the series. The latest comments from Iqbal now show the two boards remain engaged over the tour, although the dates are still not settled.
Relations improve after difficult period
The scheduling discussions are taking place after a period of strain in relations between the BCCI and BCB earlier in 2026. Tensions intensified after Kolkata Knight Riders released Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL squad, after which Bangladesh refused to play its T20 World Cup matches in India, as previously reported by cricexec. The ICC subsequently replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in the tournament, as reported previously by cricexec.
The relationship has since shown signs of improvement following Iqbal’s arrival as BCB President. Earlier this month, he travelled to India and reportedly visited the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
The bilateral series has therefore not been cancelled, but its September schedule remains uncertain. With the BCB prepared to adjust its domestic programme and discussions with the BCCI continuing, confirmation of the India tour and its final dates remains outstanding.
