India’s proposed men’s tour of Bangladesh remains dependent on formal approval from the Indian government, with the BCCI prepared to identify a window for the series if clearance is granted. Discussions are continuing with the Indian High Commission, while relations between the BCCI and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have improved following tensions between the two sides earlier this year.
No window has yet been finalised for the tour. The immediate decision therefore rests with the Indian government before the two boards can move forward with scheduling the series.
Government approval remains the key hurdle
The BCCI has continued its engagement with the Indian High Commission while awaiting a final decision on whether the tour can proceed.
A BCCI source told ANI: “The tour of Bangladesh will happen after government approval; we are in talks with the High Commissioner. Our talks are ongoing, but the final decision will come after the government’s approval.”
The discussions come as the BCCI and BCB work to restore their cricketing relationship after a difficult period earlier in 2026. While the relationship between the boards has stabilised, the Bangladesh series remains subject to clearance from the Indian government.
The source added: “Our terms with the BCB are okay now, and we are looking for a go-ahead signal from our government. We have not decided on a window for the series yet, but one will be created if we get approval for the same.”
September calendar adds scheduling considerations
Finding a suitable window would also require the boards to account for other confirmed commitments on India’s calendar.
As previously reported by cricexec, Afghanistan has confirmed September 13, 15 and 17 for a three-match T20I series against India at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, with the dates agreed with the BCCI. The men’s cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games is scheduled to follow from September 24 to October 1.
As reported previously by cricexec, India was expected to arrive in Bangladesh on August 28 for a proposed series window running from August 29 to September 15. The ODIs were scheduled for September 1, 3 and 6, followed by T20Is on September 9, 12 and 13. With the Afghanistan series overlapping that proposed window and the Asian Games following later in September, the calendar would need to be addressed if government approval is received and the boards move forward with scheduling the Bangladesh tour.
BCCI and BCB move beyond earlier tensions
India-Bangladesh cricket relations had come under strain in January when the BCCI instructed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL 2026 squad amid violence against minorities in Bangladesh.
Mustafizur had been acquired by KKR for ₹9.2 crore (approx. US$968K) at the December 2025 auction and was the only Bangladesh player selected that year.
Bangladesh subsequently decided that its national team would not travel to India for the 2026 T20 World Cup, citing security concerns and advice from the Bangladesh government. The BCB also asked the ICC to relocate its matches outside India, but that request was declined.
Bilateral discussions return to focus
By April, the BCB was discussing its relationship with Indian cricket at a meeting in Dhaka chaired by then-President Aminul Islam Bulbul. The board also confirmed that it had contacted the BCCI as part of regular communication between the two organisations.
Those exchanges covered the proposed Indian men’s tour of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh women’s team’s tour of India and further opportunities for cooperation between the BCCI and BCB.
The latest position leaves government clearance as the central requirement for the men’s tour. If approval arrives, the BCCI and BCB would then need to establish a workable series window around India’s other commitments before the bilateral contest can move forward.
