India’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh, scheduled for August 2025, is facing uncertainty as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to formally confirm participation. The tour was set to feature three ODIs on August 17, 20, and 23, followed by three T20Is on August 26, 29, and 31, with matches planned in Mirpur and Chattogram.
Government approval awaited
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam confirmed the delay after a six-hour board meeting in Dhaka. “I have already spoken to the BCCI. Discussions have been positive,” Aminul said. “We remain hopeful. It is scheduled [next month] but they are waiting for some decisions from the government.”
While the bhas not disclosed a specific reason, the delay is believed to be linked to the need for governmental clearance in India. Aminul emphasized that communication between the two boards remains active and cordial.
Possible postponement and future windows
Should the August tour be postponed, the BCCI and BCB are expected to explore the next available window. The series is particularly significant as it was intended to serve as preparation for the 2025 ACC Asia Cup and 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.
“If for some reason they can’t come [in August], they will come at the next available window,” Aminul added. “They are very professional and cooperative.”
BCB faces scheduling and venue challenges
The uncertainty has led to logistical hurdles for the BCB, including possible rescheduling of domestic tournaments and readiness of venues. Adjustments may be needed depending on the BCCI’s final stance.
Development plans for selectors and BPL
Separately, the BCB outlined broader development initiatives. The board plans to expand its selection committee by adding a third member to the men’s panel, currently comprising Gazi Ashraf and Abdur Razzak.
Additionally, the BCB is considering the appointment of a female selector to support the current women’s selection structure led by Sazzad Ahmed.
Professional management for Bangladesh Premier League
Looking ahead to the next cycle of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the BCB announced plans to bring in a professional event management company. The next edition is scheduled for December 2025 to January 2026, with franchises signing five-year agreements as part of a new tournament structure.
As the BCB awaits a definitive response from the BCCI, the fate of the August series remains a pivotal yet unresolved element of Bangladesh’s 2025 cricket calendar.
