IPL 2025 is officially set to resume on May 17 and will conclude with the final on June 3, the BCCI confirmed following a week-long suspension caused by heightened India-Pakistan cross-border tensions.
With 17 matches remaining — including 13 league games and four playoffs — the second phase promises to be a compressed and logistically challenging sprint featuring new venues, international conflicts, and squad availability dilemmas.
New IPL 2025 venues confirmed as PBKS lose home games
Matches will be played across six cities: Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. The BCCI has not yet announced playoff venues, but the revised key dates are now confirmed:
- Qualifier 1: May 29
- Eliminator: May 30
- Qualifier 2: June 1
- Final: June 3
Among the major shifts is Punjab Kings (PBKS) losing their home advantage. PBKS — third on the table with 15 points from 11 matches — will now play their remaining home games in Jaipur. The May 8 abandoned match vs Delhi Capitals (DC) will be replayed in full on May 24, followed by their match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 26, also in Jaipur.

England and West Indies ODIs to impact IPL playoff squads
The revised IPL finish clashes with the England vs West Indies ODI series (May 29 – June 3), creating availability issues for several overseas stars:
West Indies players already selected:
- Romario Shepherd (RCB)
- Shamar Joseph (LSG)
- Sherfane Rutherford (GT)
England players in IPL squads (squad TBA):
- Jos Buttler (GT)
- Phil Salt, Jacob Bethell, Liam Livingstone (RCB)
- Will Jacks, Reece Topley (MI)
Playoff contenders may be significantly impacted depending on final national squad selections.
WTC final and India A tour add more complexity
The World Test Championship final on June 11 at Lord’s and the India A tour of England (from May 30) will also affect player availability.
Likely WTC players involved in IPL:
- Pat Cummins, Travis Head (SRH)
- Mitchell Starc (DC), Josh Hazlewood (RCB)
- Marco Jansen, Josh Inglis (PBKS)
- Aiden Markram (LSG), Kagiso Rabada (GT)
- Ryan Rickelton (MI), Tristan Stubbs (DC)
India A call-ups will also draw players away, especially those set to feature in the five-Test series beginning June 20.
Franchises scramble to rebuild IPL squads
The BCCI noted that it finalized the new schedule following “extensive consultations with government and security agencies.” Now, franchises must reassemble players and staff, many of whom had returned home.
Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) may benefit from better squad continuity. GT retained most of its squad in Ahmedabad, while MI have until May 21 to regroup.
A high-stakes finish ahead
As the IPL 2025 enters its final phase, team depth, adaptability, and off-field management will be as critical as on-field performances. The push for playoff positions unfolds against the backdrop of national duty, travel reshuffles, and shifting dynamics in a tournament unlike any other.
