CDA Finalizes Site and Timeline for Landmark Cricket Venue
Islamabad is poised to take a significant leap forward in sports infrastructure as plans for a state-of-the-art cricket stadium have officially moved into the execution phase. Designed to elevate Pakistan’s capital into the ranks of elite cricketing destinations, the project will combine international standards with strategic urban planning to ensure both accessibility and excellence.
According to a report by ProPakistani, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has formally approved the construction budget and finalized Sector D-12, along Iran Avenue, as the location for the much-anticipated venue. With the groundwork scheduled to begin in mid-January, the grey structure is expected to be completed within six to eight months, aligning with the federal government’s directive to finish the project within a year.
Planned to mirror world-class stadiums like those in Dubai, the new cricket ground is a central feature in a broader initiative to enhance Islamabad’s capacity to host international sporting events. It also aims to alleviate pressure on existing cricket venues across the country, providing a high-capacity alternative for marquee matches.
The site’s location on the outskirts of the city has been strategically chosen to minimize traffic congestion during high-profile games—especially when strict security arrangements are necessary for international teams. This approach is in line with global best practices, where event logistics are carefully designed to ensure minimal disruption to urban life.
Beyond the stadium itself, the development blueprint includes a luxury hotel adjacent to the venue. This will allow teams, officials, and event personnel to stay within walking distance, offering convenience and reducing transit-related challenges on match days.
To further enhance the stadium complex, planners have incorporated advanced security systems, modernized transportation routes, and expanded parking facilities, reinforcing the project’s alignment with global sports infrastructure standards, particularly those seen in the UAE.
