The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is the sole independent governing body responsible for managing, organizing, and developing cricket in Afghanistan. Since its establishment in 1995, Afghanistan cricket has achieved significant milestones, including obtaining affiliate membership with the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2001, associate membership with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2003, and full ICC membership in June 2017. Afghanistan's National Cricket Teams are now competing among the top 10 cricketing nations globally.
Job Summary
The Internal Financial Controller oversees all financial records and transactions to ensure they comply with ACB’s financial policies, internal controls, and relevant regulations. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate and reliable financial information across all ACB departments, supporting budgeting and reporting activities, and strengthening internal control systems. The Internal Financial Controller also works closely with auditors and senior management, helping protect the organization’s financial integrity while promoting transparency and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing the day-to-day activities of the finance department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing.
- Process all financial documents from ACB’s overall departments.
- Controlling the flow of financial documents in and out of the CEO’s office.
- Managing the month-end and year-end close processes and preparing accurate and timely financial statements.
- Preparation and arrangement of monthly, quarterly, and annual work plans in accordance with the general plan of the department, in order to achieve the strategic goals of the department.
- Produce and maintain Document Progress Reports to supervisor on time.
- Collaborating on the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts, and conducting variance analysis to track performance against the budget.
- Developing, implementing, and monitoring internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure all financial transactions comply with organizational policies, and local laws/tax requirements.
- Checking financial documents for accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare, operate and update Document Control Procedures in line with the ACB policies.
- Acting as the primary liaison for external auditors, ensuring all required documentation is available and audit findings are addressed.
- Identifying financial risks and working with management to develop mitigation strategies.
- Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
- Recommending changes in policies or procedures to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Perform any other relevant task assigned by line supervisor.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is a minimum requirement; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Professional certifications such as a CPA, CMA, or ACCA are desirable.
- In financial management, accounting, and auditing, with experience in a supervisory role and managing donor-funded projects often required in specific sectors.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in financial management, accounting, and auditing with at least 2 years in a similar role
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, financial software, and advanced MS Excel is essential.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
