Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is the sole independent governing body for managing, organizing, and developing of Cricket (Men and Women) in Afghanistan. The game of cricket was officially established in 1995 in Afghanistan. It was granted affiliate membership by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2001, associate membership of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2003, and full membership of the International Cricket Council in June 2017. Afghanistan has its National Cricket Teams playing among the top 10 cricketing countries of the world.

Job Summary

The Strength and Conditioning Trainer is a crucial member of the Coaching at the national team of the Afghanistan Cricket Board. Reporting to the Head Coach, the S&C Trainer is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strength and conditioning programs to enhance the physical fitness, endurance, and injury resilience of the National team players. The Strength and Conditioning Trainer collaborates closely with the coaching staff and medical team to ensure the overall well-being and peak physical performance of the Players.

Duties & Responsibilities

Fitness Assessment:

  • Conduct thorough fitness assessments for each player, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop individualized fitness plans based on players' positions, playing styles, and specific fitness goals.

Strength Training Programs:

  • Design and implement structured strength training programs tailored to the demands of cricket, with a focus on injury prevention.
  • Provide guidance on proper techniques and supervise strength training sessions.

Conditioning and Endurance:

  • Develop and oversee cardiovascular conditioning programs to enhance players' endurance and agility on the field.
  • Integrate sport-specific conditioning drills into training sessions to simulate match scenarios.

Recovery Strategies:

  • Implement effective post-training and post-match recovery strategies to minimize fatigue and reduce the risk of injuries.
  • Collaborate with the medical team to address players' recovery needs and ensure timely rehabilitation.

Injury Prevention:

  • Work proactively to identify injury-prone areas in players and design injury prevention exercises.
  • Conduct regular mobility and flexibility sessions to enhance players' range of motion and reduce injury risks.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Utilize fitness tracking tools and technologies to monitor players' progress and adjust training programs accordingly.
  • Conduct periodic fitness assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of strength and conditioning programs.

Nutritional Guidance:

  • Collaborate with nutritionists to provide dietary guidance to players, ensuring optimal nutrition for training and recovery.
  • Educate players on the importance of proper nutrition in enhancing physical performance.

Communication with Coaching Staff:

  • Maintain open communication with the coaching staff to align strength and conditioning programs with the overall team strategy.
  • Provide regular updates on players' fitness levels, readiness, and any concerns related to physical conditioning.

Innovation and Technology:

  • Stay abreast of advancements in sports science, strength training, and conditioning methodologies.
  • Incorporate innovative technologies and tools to enhance the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Any additional responsibilities or tasks assigned by the head coach and international department related to strength and conditioning training duties.
  • Timely monthly report regarding tours and camps.

Travel and Availability:

  • Travel with the national team for all home and away tours to provide continuous coaching support.
  • Be available to travel to Afghanistan for training camps, domestic events, and coordination with local staff.

Job Requirements

  • Relevant academic qualifications in sports science, strength and conditioning, or a related field.
  • Having a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or an equivalent certification.
  • Minimum of 7 years of proven experience as a strength and conditioning trainer in cricket.
  • Excellent understanding of the physical demands of cricket and the ability to tailor programs accordingly.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with coaching and medical staff.
  • The incumbent is required to work in the region or wherever the session/events are conducted.
