Reports to: Head Cricket BCCI COE

Role Purpose:

To aggregate, administer, manage, and analyse all aspects of data pertaining to Cricket Analytics, including player performance and game data, including visual data arising from Game Analytics, Rehabilitation, Strength and Conditioning, Technology used directly and peripherally in International, domestic cricket and Training arenas, and provide insights for management decision making.

Key Accountabilities:

Main job duties/responsibilities:

  • To develop Cricket Game Analytics as a separate vertical to support strategic decision making in using inputs from Sports Science including Strength and Conditioning, Biomechanics, Physiotherapy and other areas of performance.
  • Using Athlete Management, Video Analytics, GPS enabled Platforms, wearable data and game related software tools to derive game related analytics which will help identify areas of improvement for different facets of the game, be it individual player skills or strategy-oriented areas.
  • Work with the Head of Cricket, BCCI COE for the development of the Data and Analytics wing of BCCI COE.
  • Responsible to manage feeds from relevant stakeholders with regards to-
  1. Physical Attributes of players contributing to player performance.
  2. Performance Metrics for different forms of the game.
  3. Technical Ability / Shortcomings of players.
  4. To support Physiotherapy, Medical and Strength and Conditioning departments in streamlining and analysing their data for better player performance in their processes.

Scope of Services include:

  • Acquiring data from primary and secondary sources to create a wide database for predictive analysis.
  • Coding and mining the data based on the requirements of the various stakeholders.
  • Interpretation, analysis and dissemination of performance data using statistical modelling techniques.
  • Define Performance Metrics with the Sports Science and Coaching Staff to churn out relevant data with great visualisations.
  • Work closely with the Physiotherapy, Strength & Conditioning and Coaching Teams to identify patterns and provide relevant insights
  • Work towards optimally utilising GPS data and other Sports Tech Platforms commissioned by the BCCI CoE to provide meaningful insights to relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop MIS to increase outreach of the insights to the State Cricket Associations, Players and Match Officials.
  • Develop algorithms for preventing injuries and engineered effective ways for rehabilitating athletes
  • Test sports science equipment on a regular basis to cultivate algorithms for the purpose of metrics and KPI development.

Regular attendance at appropriate meetings, providing sound, appropriate and useful input

Operating Environment:

  • Challenging working environment. Prioritising workload and managing time given the oftencompeting demands of different players and staff. The person will be working as a part of a multidisciplinary support Team.
  • Will have help set up the analytics department which will be known for its excellence and be at the cutting edge of the discipline. Be able to start, research and create a development pathway whilst communicating with fellow professionals, and attending continuing education programs and scientific conferences as part of the job role.
  • Maintaining effective lines of communication with all key stakeholders- Head Cricket BCCI COE , Manager Administration & Operations BCCI COE, Physiotherapists, S & C team, Selectors, administrators at the State Academies, India team coaches and cricket operations administrators is a necessary and vital part of the job role.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Must be abreast with all modern developments in High performance Sports Science in relation to cricket
  • Must have a proven track record in the development and delivery of sports analytics
  • Strong competency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint
  • Proficient in any of the analytical tools such as Tableau, PowerBI etc
  • Expert knowledge and skills to support the BCCI High performance programs

Professional experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in working in high performance sports as a sports analyst/data scientist with a High-Performance Centre/ International/India A/India U-19/India Women/IPL/ State team

  • PhD in Analytics / Data Science will be preferred
  • Computer literate with excellent written and oral communication skills including Microsoft Outlook, word, excel, power point, and associated video capture and analysis software.
