What’s the deal?
We’re looking for a curious, organised person to support our Chair during board meetings and help with behind-the-scenes planning. You’ll get insight into how sport, community, and leadership connect plus experience you won’t find in a textbook.
Role Title: Volunteer Chair Associate
Role Purpose:
The Volunteer Chair Associate will play a crucial role in supporting Berkshire Cricket’s governance, ensuring legal compliance, and helping the Board of Trustees operate effectively. This role is ideal for someone with a strong sense of integrity, a passion for sport or cricket and exceptional organisational skills, looking to make a meaningful contribution to our mission.
Berkshire Cricket is an independent charity that looks to grow the game of cricket within the County of Berkshire, including participation and performance programmes. The charity also performs the role of the County Cricket Board and works closely with the England & Wales Cricket Board and other cricket partners to deliver highly impactful and important opportunities for people to engage with the game.
Time Commitment:
We request up to 8 voluntary hours per month, with attendance at quarterly board meetings in the Reading area and attendance at some committee meetings (online each quarter). Tenure will be up to 1 year – running October to October.
Location:
Remote, with the ability to travel to the Reading and within Berkshire for Board meetings and ad hoc events. Any expenses incurred would be reimbursed.

This is an unpaid voluntary position.

Key Responsibilities (what you will do)
• Coordinate and support trustee board meetings and Committee meetings including scheduling
• Assist with board meeting preparation, including compiling papers, coordinating logistics.
Working with the Chair to draft the agenda and coordinating with the CEO, Chair and the Executive to ensure quality and timely pre read is circulated.
• Take Board minutes and draft the minutes within 72 hours. Liaise with trustees and staff to support follow-up actions and scheduling.
• Support the Chair with Board, CEO 121 scheduling, Trustee 121 scheduling
• Support Chair-led projects such as strategy sessions, governance reviews, or trustee onboarding.
• Contribute to maintaining organised digital filing and access systems for Board documents.

You’ll get stuck into real work helping with board meetings, supporting projects, and seeing how decisions get made. It’s a great way to learn how leadership works in practice, and how organisations tackle big questions around fairness, community, and representation.

The only prerequisite is you need to be a confident user of Microsoft Office tools from building presentations in PowerPoint to analysing data in Excel and shaping documents with precision in Word.
No other prior experience or knowledge is needed; we will help you learn and hopefully have fun along the way. We’ll offer guidance, support, and training and you can step away anytime if things get busy.
