What is Cambridgeshire Cricket?

Cambridgeshire Cricket Board is operated by Cambridgeshire Cricket Limited and is part of the family of organisations that exist to make cricket accessible, available, and enjoyable for people in the county. It is one of the 39 County Cricket Boards that makes up the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and is responsible for all ECB programmes in the county board area.

Established in 1996, the Cambridgeshire Cricket Board (CCB) promotes and develops the game of cricket in the districts of Cambridge City, South Cambridgeshire, East Cambridgeshire, and Fenland through partnerships with cricketing bodies and other appropriate agencies. In 2011, the Board became a Company Limited by Guarantee under the name of Cambridgeshire Cricket Limited.

Cambridgeshire Cricket Limited is responsible for all Participation and Growth activities, supporting recreational cricket, County Age Group cricket, and Talent Pathway Programmes across the County Cricket Board geographical area of Cambridgeshire. The CCB works across a variety of cricket leagues, member associations, educational establishments, facility providers, clubs, community groups, and other organisations to deliver its vision and strategy.

Job Title: Community Cricket Coach
Hours of work: Full Time, 37.5 hours (minimum contract of 24 months)
Reports to: Schools and Community Officer
Date Effective: January 2026
Remuneration: £23,500-£25,000 (depending on experience – access to NEST pension scheme, 25 days holiday, business mileage)

Job purpose and focus
Cambridgeshire Cricket Limited wishes to appoint a full-time Community Cricket Coach to support the implementation of its 2025-2028 Strategic Plan and to continue the great work that has already begun in this area. The coach will work across the districts of Cambridge City, South Cambs, Fenland and East Cambs, with more concentrated work dependant on their geographical location.

They will provide school-based and community cricketing opportunities for children of all ages. The coach will especially support the expansion of our Primary Schools programme and engagement to offer cricket in at least 50% of Primary Schools across the County by 2028. The other main focus of the role will be to support the implementation of a Talent Development Centre for u10s to u12s across the County. This is an early engagement programme providing higher level coaching and competition for identified talented cricketers, and will involve some regular weekend work.

This role seeks an energetic and enthusiastic individual who has passion for supporting and developing people and the game. The role combines coaching and development work and will be responsible for engaging children in their first experience of cricket and providing opportunities to develop their talent and ability.

As part of the Development Team the appointed person will be expected to work across the following areas:
• Primary and Secondary School Engagement – work with schools to embed cricket within the schools` sporting provision. Deliver a programme in line with desired outcomes.
• Disability Participation – provide opportunities for people with disabilities to be able to access community cricket through Super 1s and/or a Disability Champion Clubs
• Community Engagement – support local communities to access cricket, specifically through Chance to Shine Street
• Talent Development – identifying and supporting a talent development programme for promising cricketers between 10-12 years old
• Transition – supporting movement from school to club settings, especially into National Programmes (All Stars and Dynamos Cricket)

This will result in a work programme with responsibilities to work closely with key local partners, especially schools and clubs. As part of the role, you will:
• Plan, deliver and review high quality cricket / multi skills / core movement coaching sessions that are young person focused. Including coaching sessions for specific priority groups e.g., young people, girls, Key Stage 1, disabled, etc
• Coach on, run festivals for, and support the administration of, the talent development programme for developing 10 to 12 year olds across the County.
• Actively support the transition of young people from school to community sport by, for example, the establishment of after school clubs and facilitating school-club links
• Actively signpost children to local cricket club development programmes such as All Stars and Dynamos Cricket
• Ensure that all monitoring and evaluation is completed accurately and in a timely manner to meet the needs and expectations of our partners

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• Experience as a cricket coach to ECB level 2/ UKCC2/ Core Coach (or overseas equivalent)
• Experience of working within the sport at a recreational level
• High levels of energy and enthusiasm and the desire to succeed
• The ability to prioritise and work to deadlines
• Safeguarding trained, or commitment to achieving this within a short period of time
• First Aid trained, or a commitment to achieving this within a short period of time
• ECB DBS checked or willing to complete this quickly
• Ability to travel independently between sites (Full and valid driving licence required)

Desirable
• Experience of working in both school and community settings
• Working knowledge of school to club links and cricket development programmes
• Experience of working with recreational sports clubs
• Understanding of partnership working and able to create strong and sustainable links with contacts throughout the area
• Experience of working on cricket specific projects
• Experience of teaching/coaching children of all ages

Supervision and work planning
The Community Cricket Coach will be employed by Cambridgeshire Cricket Limited and line managed by the Schools and Community Officer. The coach will work across the County of Cambridgeshire and will work from home on administrative tasks.

The employee’s normal working days will include regular off-season weekend work coaching at Talent Development Centres but will mainly be Monday to Friday. The employee will not normally be required to work before 9am, however, due to the nature of the work involved in this position, the post holder will be required to carry out their duties at such times and on such days that are the most effective to perform the responsibilities of the position.
