ABOUT THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior WHS, Risk & Compliance Lead to join Cricket Australia and play a pivotal role in protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of our people, players, officials, volunteers and fans across Australian Cricket.

This is a true end-to-end safety leadership role requiring a highly capable practitioner who can operate seamlessly across both strategic and operational environments. The role is responsible for leading WHS strategy, governance, compliance and risk management across Cricket Australia, whilst maintaining direct involvement in operational safety activities including events, match day operations, contractor management, incident investigations, training, return-to-work activities and day-to-day safety administration.

The successful candidate will be equally comfortable conducting a contractor safety review at a venue, supporting match day operations, responding to a workplace incident or managing regulatory compliance, as they are preparing Board papers, presenting to Executive and Board Committees, influencing senior leaders and developing long-term safety strategies.

As Cricket Australia's subject matter expert, you will provide leadership across workplace health and safety, psychosocial safety, child safety, risk management and legislative compliance, helping to foster a practical, proactive and high-performing safety culture across Australian Cricket.

Reporting to the Head of Risk, you'll be responsible for:

  • Leading Cricket Australia's WHS, wellbeing and safety risk management programs, including the ongoing development and implementation of our Safety Management System, governance frameworks and compliance activities.
  • Providing expert advice on WHS, psychosocial safety, child safety and regulatory compliance, whilst partnering with leaders across Cricket Australia and State & Territory Associations to embed practical safety outcomes.
  • Managing cricket-specific safety risks across a diverse range of environments, including offices, venues, major events, tournaments and international tours.
  • Leading CA's Event Safety Framework and working closely with event delivery teams, venues and contractors to ensure the safe delivery of cricket matches and major events.
  • Driving continuous improvement through risk management, assurance activities, incident investigations, training, wellbeing initiatives, and workers compensation and return-to-work programs.
  • Preparing and presenting high-quality reporting, insights and recommendations to Executive leaders, Committees and the Board.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • 8-10+ years' experience in Health & Safety, Risk, Compliance or a related field, including experience in senior WHS or safety leadership roles.
  • Qualification in Work Health & Safety, Risk Management, Occupational Health, or a related discipline (tertiary preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience operating across both strategic and operational safety environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, risk management and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience managing complex and diverse risks, including operational, psychosocial and regulatory risks.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build credibility at all levels of an organisation.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing reports and presenting to Executive, Board and Committee audiences.
  • A pragmatic, hands-on and highly professional approach, with the ability to move seamlessly between strategy, governance, operational delivery and day-to-day problem solving.

WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT

This role is a unique opportunity for an experienced safety leader who enjoys operating across the full spectrum of safety, risk and compliance activities – from Board room to boundary rope. You’ll be developing strategy and influencing organisational direction through to supporting match day operations, solving practical problems and helping teams deliver cricket safely every day.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

Our employees at Cricket are gifted an additional week of leave at the end of the season! As a CA employee, you will also have other benefits including:
