Cricket forms one of our Performance Sports for both girls and boys, and there has been significant development of the programme over recent years, with teams regularly reaching national finals across different age groups. The programme has extensive links with local clubs, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and the performance pathway.
We are seeking a dedicated Director of Cricket with the leadership, vision, technical skills, and experience to take the lead role in the strategic development and delivery of cricket. This role will be responsible for shaping and articulating a cricket philosophy and vision unique to the College that delivers a strategic, tactical and technical dimension at all levels, with the aim of a holistic approach in developing technically excellent players who are tactically astute and independent decision makers both on and off the playing field. The Director of Cricket will be the ‘go-to’ person for all matters related to the game at the College.
- To produce a clear and coherent plan for the systematic development of cricket at the College, with clearly identified short, medium and long term goals for the programme.
- To develop and implement a cricket programme that delivers a strategic, tactical and technical dimension at all levels based on key performance targets with the objective of developing technically and tactically excellent players across all year groups.
- To effectively communicate the cricket philosophy and vision to pupils, coaches and staff and to inspire a sense of commitment to the successful advancement of cricket at the College.
- To align, plan and organise the College’s coaching and match playing activities with the cricket philosophy at the College.
- To develop, implement and lead a cricket training programme for all coaching staff so that they deliver coaching aligned with the cricket philosophy at the College.
- To deliver all cricket activity within the agreed budget set by the College.
- To identify and manage change effectively through good communication and implement a process of continuous improvement.
- To manage, mentor and motivate all cricket coaching staff to know what is required of them so they can achieve their goals through regular performance management, team meetings and timely 1:1 meetings.
- To liaise with both teaching staff and external coaches with co-curricular responsibility for cricket on a regular basis and to monitor and support their coaching of pupils consistent with the College’s cricket programme.
- To attract talented cricketers to the College and support them in balancing their performance pathway commitments and development with their academic studies and wider College commitments.
- To lead, organise and promote cricket tours with the aim of developing and advancing the players technical and tactical skills.
- To lead and enhance the reputation of the College with other cricket organisations including local clubs, academies, prep schools and secure sustainable professional relationships.
- Coordinate the administration of the cricket programme, with support from the Sports Administrator and Assistant Director of Cricket.
- Undertake all duties in compliance with safeguarding and health and safety procedures.
- Be involved in the wider College community as a House Tutor
Salary: A competitive salary commensurate to the role and experience of the successful candidate.
Hours: Term time only working Monday–Saturday within the school timetable 8:00am-6:00pm. In addition, there are a number of commitments to pre-season training and sports tours during the school holidays.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience of working successfully at senior/leadership level, either within a cricket club/performance programme or in a similar position within an educational establishment.
• Proven ability to lead both teams and individuals;
• Demonstrate a passion for cricket and an ambitious approach to improvement and success;
• Evidence of significant knowledge and proven track record in developing and implementing a successful cricket philosophy and coaching programme;
• Have extensive experience in coaching at the highest level, with evidence of a commitment to continuous development within the sport;
• Proven experience of developing and implementing high quality coaching programmes;
• Demonstrate an ability to inspire, motivate and encourage pupils and staff through sporting and coaching activities;
• Provide evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills to engage with pupils and the wider College community;
• An appreciation and understanding of safeguarding protocols and procedures.
• Demonstrate strong organisational skills;
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
• Playing cricket to a high or professional level
• A teaching qualification and/or the ability and willingness to teach a subject within the school
