JOB TITLE: Casual community coach
HOURS: Casual (evenings from 4:30pm)
CONTRACT: 0 hours contract
START DATE: As soon as possible
SALARY: £21ph lead / £18ph assistant
LOCATION: North of Hampshire (Basingstoke)

ROLE OVERVIEW
Hampshire Cricket Board (HCB) is responsible for growing the recreational game in the county. We aim to inspire everyone to play cricket through the delivery of school, club and community-based programmes.
We are seeking keen and enthusiastic individuals to deliver our inclusive community-based cricket programmes for young people in Basingstoke. The individuals will lead or assist in coaching and community engagement across three Chance to Shine ‘Street’ clubs, reaching a wide range of young people aged 8-16. The role is aimed at individuals who enjoy providing opportunities in fun environments for young people entering the game and supporting their development into clubs and talent pathways. Community sport coaches motivate and engage people of all ages and abilities in community sports settings, including local authority, charity and national governing body of sport community initiatives or clubs. The individuals will have a positive impact on the lives of young people.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
⦁ Plan, deliver and review cricket sessions to inspire a love for the game
⦁ Ensure accurate attendance records are kept and logged in accordance with programme policy
⦁ Establish and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders, particularly schools and community partners
⦁ Regularly engage and build relationships with young people and the wider community within the set geographical area
⦁ Report to urban programmes manager and attend training events
⦁ Identify and support individual or group case studies for promotional and monitoring/evaluation purposes
⦁ Manage and maintain own safeguarding and compliance relating to coaching cricket
PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
⦁ An understanding and experience of working with young people in a school or sports club environment, inspiring them to participate in sport and physical activity
⦁ Experience of coaching a wide range of audiences (desirable)
⦁ Experience of working with volunteers
⦁ Effective communication skills in a variety of formats e.g. face to face, phone and e-mail
⦁ Ability to work independently and as part of a team
⦁ Strong organisational and planning skills
⦁ Efficient time management
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
⦁ Aged 18 by 1st September 2026
⦁ Ability to travel independently between sites (this role can be completed without full driving licence, but is preferred)
⦁ Valid passport and been living in the UK for a minimum of 3 years
⦁ Completion of ECB Foundation Coach course (Level 1) and be qualified by September 2026 (including all relevant safeguarding documents) – HCB to provide supporting training
⦁ First Aid trained (can be provided)
⦁ ECB DBS check
WORKING HOURS
The community-based urban programmes operate in the evenings, with 5pm start times. You will be required to arrive at venues in advance of sessions to prepare. Sessions range from 1 hour to 3-4 hours and you will be required to supervise every child until their legal guardian is present.
