The KNCB is looking to appoint three Match Referees to support fair play, match integrity and umpire development within Dutch cricket.
As a Match Referee, you are part of the Match Officials structure and act on behalf of the KNCB to ensure matches are conducted safely, in accordance with the relevant Playing Conditions and Regulations, and in line with the Spirit of Cricket. In addition to supporting umpire development, you play a key role in the disciplinary system by applying disciplinary measures or acting as prosecutor when required. You will initially be appointed as an umpire assessor and as Match Referee for finals in the domestic competition, with the opportunity to progress into the Match Referee role within the High Performance pathway.

This is a voluntary position. Match fees and travel expenses apply for Umpire Assessments during the competition and appointments as a Match referee at games.

The role

As a Match Referee, you will:

  • Oversee the overall conduct of matches, ensuring they are played fairly, safely and within the Spirit of Cricket
  • Act as the independent authority during matches when issues relating to behaviour, discipline or regulations arise
  • Handle and follow up on reports of misconduct, including notifying parties involved, managing responses, and advising on next steps where required
  • Apply administrative and disciplinary measures when appropriate or bring the case to the Disciplinary Committee and act as the prosecutor
  • Assess umpire performance during matches and provide clear, structured and constructive feedback. Report the umpire performance to the Umpire Development Officer.
  • During High Performance matches, operate as the leader of the Playing Control Team, contributing to:
    • Pre-match briefings
    • Oversight of playing conditions
    • Player behaviour management
    • Umpire assessment and feedback
    • Accurate and timely reporting after the match

We are looking for people who:

• Have played and/or umpired at the highest level in the Netherlands
• Have a strong working knowledge of Dutch playing conditions and competition regulations
• Are calm, objective and decisive under pressure
• Communicate clearly and confidently with players, captains and umpires
• Can balance authority with a supportive, development-focused approach
• Act with integrity, neutrality and consistency
• Highly skilled in Computer applications including Microsoft platforms – Internet Explorer, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Good communicator (spoken and writing) in Dutch and Englisch, preferable experience in writing reports and / or indictments
• Match Referees are expected to stay actively connected to the umpire pathway and their own development by taking part in continuous development sessions for the umpires
• Dutch VOG is needed for this position
• Dutch resident
