About us

Manawatū Cricket Association (MCA) is committed to growing cricket across the region and making the game accessible, enjoyable, and inclusive for everyone. We work with schools, clubs, volunteers, and community partners to create positive cricket experiences from first-time participation through to competitive cricket.

We’re a passionate, community-minded team that values collaboration, participation growth, and strong relationships. At MCA, you’ll be part of an organisation that is focused on making a real difference in cricket across Manawatū.

About the role

As Cricket Development Officer, you will help deliver high-quality cricket experiences across schools, clubs, and community settings. This is a hands-on, community-based role with a strong focus on junior cricket development, participation growth, and programme delivery.

You will work closely with the Community Cricket Lead, Junior Cricket Committee, schools, clubs, and casual activators to coordinate and deliver engaging cricket opportunities across the region. The role is 0.6 FTE annualised, with higher delivery hours in season and flexible, lower hours in the off-season.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver Smash Play and other NZC-endorsed programmes in schools and community venues.
  • Support junior cricket coordination and junior competition delivery.
  • Assist with scheduling, match operations, and PlayHQ administration.
  • Recruit, train, lead, and support casual activators.
  • Build strong relationships with clubs, schools, teachers, and community partners.
  • Support participation and retention plans through active programme delivery.
  • Assist with coach development, workshops, and volunteer engagement.
  • Deliver festivals, have-a-go days, and community activations.
  • Support junior and youth pathway activities, including trials and trainings.
  • Collect participation data and provide reporting and insights.
  • Support seasonal planning, resource development, and operational delivery.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who brings energy, initiative, and a genuine passion for working with young people and community cricket. You’ll be confident building relationships, delivering programmes in schools and community settings, and juggling multiple priorities across the season.

You’ll also bring:

  • Experience in community sport delivery, coaching, teaching, or youth engagement.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Good organisation and the ability to manage multiple activities.
  • Confidence delivering structured programmes in schools and community venues.
  • A positive, inclusive approach and a willingness to get stuck in.
  • Confidence using digital systems; PlayHQ experience is an advantage.
  • A current driver’s licence and access to a roadworthy vehicle.
  • Coaching or development qualifications, or a willingness to obtain them.
  • Commitment to MCA values and to growing cricket across the region.

What we offer

We offer a competitive salary package aligned to experience, flexible annualised hours, mileage reimbursement, a mobile phone, laptop, and branded clothing. You’ll also have access to NZC training, coaching accreditation, and professional development, all within a supportive team environment.
