Middlesex CCC are seeking a Head Grounds person to manage, prepare, and deliver outstanding playing and practice facilities at the QEII ground at Swyncombe Avenue. The applicant should be experienced, passionate and fully committed to delivering the highest standards of ground maintenance and fine turf preparations. This is a significant role for the club as it will be the first grounds person ever employed by our club in its 164-year history.

 

Candidates will need a proven track record in cricket pitch preparation along with outfield and ground management while respecting that maintaining the ground is an all-year-round job as well as understanding the work needed in the off season. They must also be able to demonstrate the highest standards of health and safety and risk assessment.

The person:

The successful candidate will have the following experience / skills / qualities:

Essential:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Possession of a minimum of Level 2 qualification in Sports Turf Maintenance or an equivalent recognised certification.
  • No less than 3 years prior grounds person experience, involving the annual preparation, renovations and maintenance of cricket squares and outfields.
  • Proven track record of working within a sporting environment or institution.
  • Clear understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation.
  • Formal training in manual handling and risk assessments.

Desirable

  • First Class cricket ground experience
  • PA1, PA2 & PA6 Safe use of Pesticide, qualifications – or a willingness to acquire these at the earliest point upon being appointed
  • Valid UK driving license
  • Effective use of computer programmes to enhance documentation, planning, communication, and presentation
  • Pavilion maintenance skills and experience.
  • GMA membership holder.

  • Interest in Sustainability and ability to balance financial decisions, with performance and sustainable outcomes in both short and long term.
  • Presentation and communication skills to share knowledge across local network and provide demonstrations from time to time.
  • Prepared to work occasional evenings and weekends (with time off in lieu provided) as required by the booking programmes and weather conditions.
