We are looking for an experienced Assistant Batting Coach to join our BLACKCAPS team until March 2029 on a fixed term, full time basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work with New Zealand's elite male cricketers, supporting their development and performance at the highest level of the game.
When based in New Zealand, this is a remote role; however, it requires regular travel both domestically and internationally with the BLACKCAPS. You’ll be expected to join the team for training camps, tours, matches and other team commitments, which may involve extended periods away from home.
Working closely with the team throughout these commitments, you’ll combine specialist batting coaching with a strong focus on player development and team culture. You’ll help create an environment where individuals and the team can consistently perform and succeed on the international stage.
Responsibilities
- Support the BLACKCAPS Head Coach in creating a positive, high performing team environment aligned with NZC values and culture.
- Deliver specialist batting coaching and tailored player development programmes that support both individual growth and team success.
- Work collaboratively with captains, coaches, analysts, performance specialists and medical staff to optimise player preparation and performance readiness.
- Use data, video analysis and performance insights to enhance batting strategy, decision making and execution across all formats of the game.
- Contribute to the development of New Zealand Cricket’s wider high-performance system through collaboration with Major Associations and the NZ High Performance Unit.
Experience and Skills
- Strong technical and tactical batting knowledge with the ability to support elite player performance.
- Proven ability to build trust and connect with players, helping them develop both as athletes and individuals.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear, constructive and adaptable coaching support.
- Experience working in high performance sport, ideally with international coaching and/or elite playing experience.
- Level 3 Cricket Coaching Qualification or international equivalent is highly desirable.
