Role Overview

The Fielding Coach is responsible for raising fielding, ground coverage, and catching standards across the Qatar Men’s National Team, embedding fielding as a consistent performance edge through structured drills, positional specialization, and match-specific preparation.

About Qatar Cricket Association

The Qatar Cricket Association (QCA) is the national governing body for cricket in the State of Qatar, responsible for the development, administration, and international representation of the sport at all levels. QCA oversees the Men’s and Women’s National Teams, age-group national squads, and the broader domestic cricket pathway, with a mandate to raise playing standards and grow participation across the country.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver fielding-specific training sessions covering catching, ground fielding, throwing accuracy, and positional specialization (e.g. close catching, outfield, wicketkeeping support drills).
  • Develop fielding plans and positioning strategies in line with the team’s bowling and match-up plans, in coordination with the Head Coach and Bowling Coach.
  • Conduct individual fielding assessments to identify technical gaps and tailor development plans for each player, including reaction time and agility components.
  • Use video analysis to review fielding performance in matches and training, identifying patterns and areas for improvement.
  • Plan match-day and pre-match fielding warm-up routines tailored to specific opposition and ground conditions.
  • Liaise with strength and conditioning staff to incorporate agility, speed, and reflex training relevant to elite fielding standards.
  • Provide written and verbal performance feedback to players and the Head Coach following training blocks, camps, and matches.
  • Contribute to the broader athletic development of players, supporting general fitness and movement-based coaching elements as needed.
  • Support the mentoring of domestic and age-group coaches on fielding standards as part of QCA’s broader coach development pathway.
  • Represent QCA’s coaching standards and code of conduct during tours, camps, and ICC-sanctioned events.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum ICC Level 2 coaching certification (or equivalent); specialist fielding coaching certification or background in athletic performance is an advantage.
  • Prior playing experience at a representative level, with a strong personal fielding record, is preferred.
  • At least 2-3 years of coaching experience in a fielding or all-round specialist coaching role with a representative or franchise team.
  • Background in athletic movement, agility training, or sports science is an advantage, though not essential.
  • Demonstrated experience using video analysis tools to review on-field performance.
  • Valid First Aid / Basic Life Support certification, or willingness to obtain prior to appointment.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong technical expertise in fielding mechanics, including catching technique, throwing accuracy, and ground fielding.
  • Ability to design high-intensity, engaging fielding drills that translate into measurable match-day performance.
  • Good understanding of game situations and tactical fielding positioning relevant to white-ball and red-ball cricket.
  • Strong communication skills and the energy to sustain player engagement in a discipline often considered secondary to batting and bowling.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for tours, training camps, and competitions, including extended periods away from home.
