Sri Lanka Cricket invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of National Curator.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation, maintenance, and management of international standard cricket pitches and outfields at all national venues
- Ensure playing surfaces meet ICC regulations and international quality standards
- Plan and implement pitch preparation strategies for domestic and international matches
- Monitor and manage turf conditions, soil profiles, drainage systems, and irrigation practices
- Provide technical guidance and support to venue curators across the country
- Coordinate with match officials, ground staff, and cricket operations teams regarding venue requirements
- Conduct regular inspections of venues and provide technical reports to management
- Manage ground-related resources, equipment, and maintenance schedules efficiently
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and sustainability standards in ground preparation
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Turf Management or related field from a recognized university or institution in Sri Lanka or equivalent foreign qualification
- Professional training in sports turf management / groundsmanship will be an added advantage
- Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in cricket pitch preparation at first-class, franchise, or international level
- Proven experience in managing or supporting major cricket venues
- Strong practical knowledge of soil management, turf maintenance, drainage systems, and pitch behavior under varying climatic conditions
- Knowledge of ICC pitch and outfield standards and requirements
- Familiarity with modern turf management technologies, equipment, and data-based ground management practices
- Experience in preparing pitches for multi-format cricket, including Test, ODI, T20I, and domestic competitions
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety practices related to turf and ground maintenance
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise effectively with players, coaches, match officials, venue authorities, and international stakeholders
- Competency in preparing technical reports, pitch assessments, and maintenance documentation
- Membership or affiliation with recognized turf management or groundsmen associations would be an added advantage
- Previous exposure to ICC inspections, accreditation processes, or international venue audits will be considered an advantage
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict match preparation timelines
- Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to develop and mentor regional and venue curators
- A valid driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across the country
- High standards of professionalism, integrity, discipline, and commitment to excellence
In addition to working effectively within a team environment, the National Curator must be capable of operating independently and managing responsibilities that may require work during irregular hours, including early mornings, weekends, and match days. A proactive, detail-oriented professional who is able to perform with minimal supervision in a high-performance sporting environment would be well suited for this role.
