Joburg Super Kings promote Albie Morkel to head coach ahead of SA20 2027

The former South Africa all-rounder, a long-time member of the franchise's coaching staff and Super Kings family, will lead Joburg Super Kings into the fifth season of SA20.

Former South Africa all-rounder Albie Morkel has been appointed Joburg Super Kings‘ new Head Coach ahead of the upcoming SA20 season.

Albie played 1 Test, 58 ODIs and 50 T20Is for South Africa in an international career from 2004 to 2015. Overall, he played 319 T20s scoring over 4000 runs and picking up close to 250 wickets.

A familiar face within the Super Kings family, Albie has been an integral part of the Joburg Super Kings coaching setup since the franchise’s inception.

He understands what the Super Kings stand for, has built strong relationships with our players and staff, and has played an important role behind the scenes in player development. The fifth edition of SA20 starts on January 17, 2027. Joburg Super Kings play their first match on January 18.
