England’s white-ball star tops PCA MVP rankings again with explosive performances
LONDON: Jos Buttler has been named the Vitality IT20 Men’s Player of the Summer for the second consecutive year, after finishing atop the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) Most Valuable Player (MVP) Rankings with 136.90 points.
England’s all-time leading IT20 run-scorer racked up 301 runs this summer at an average of 43, striking at over 190. He collected 113.90 batting points and 15 fielding points — thanks to five catches and two stumpings — across seven appearances in the format.
Series-defining performances power MVP repeat
Buttler’s campaign began with a statement 96 off 59 balls against the West Indies in June, including six fours and four sixes. That performance earned him 42.61 MVP points and helped England to a 21-run win. He also secured another Match MVP in a rain-shortened game against South Africa, scoring 25 off just 11 balls in Cardiff.
Buttler was also part of England’s record-breaking 126-run opening partnership with Phil Salt in Manchester. He scored 83 off 30 balls as England posted their highest-ever IT20 total of 304-2, demolishing South Africa by 146 runs.
England won the West Indies series 3-0, with Buttler leading all scorers with 165 runs at an average of 55.
Salt and Duckett also shine in MVP rankings
Despite playing just four matches, Phil Salt finished second in the IT20 MVP Rankings with 114.66 points, largely driven by his blistering 141 not out off 60 balls against South Africa — the fastest IT20 century ever by an England player. He also scored 89 off 46 in the opener against Ireland.
Ben Duckett rounded out the top three with 53.81 points from three appearances. His standout showing came in the final game against the West Indies, where he struck 84 off 46 balls and took two catches.
Buttler joins Brook and Root as MVP winners
Buttler joins Harry Brook and Joe Root as England Men’s MVP winners for the summer. Brook was named Rothesay Men’s Test Player of the Summer, while Root earned the Metro Bank Men’s ODI Player of the Summer.
