REPORTS TO: Chief Operations Officer
CONTRACT: Full-time
HOURS: Flexible working hours, including weekends, evenings, and Bank
Holidays during match days or emergencies.
SALARY: Competitive Salary
BASED AT: The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Canterbury

Summary of Role:
Kent Cricket is recruiting for an exciting role within its Grounds Operation and Maintenance
Team.
The Head of Maintenance is responsible for all aspects of maintenance and facilities management at Kent Cricket, including the day-to-day management of The Spitfire Ground.
This role involves supervising contractor work, performing maintenance duties, and overseeing both permanent and temporary maintenance staff. The successful candidate will also project manage any facilities and building work at the venue while managing the Facilities & Maintenance budget effectively.

Other Details:
Normal working hours will be 09:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday (inclusive), including one hour unpaid lunch on each day worked. The post holder will be based at The Spitfire Ground, St. Lawrence but travel to The County Ground, Beckenham may be required to assist on match days. Due to the nature of the work, the post holder will carry out his/her/their duties as such times/days which are most effective to perform the tasks required. This may involve some out of hours work – evenings, weekends, Bank Holidays, as necessary.

Kent Cricket is one of only 18 first-class county cricket clubs in England and Wales. From our headquarters at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence in Canterbury, and with a satellite ground at The County Ground, Beckenham, we are responsible for the growth and development of all cricket across Kent and our four London Boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham – from community and schools’ cricket to the professional game.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Project Management
    Project manage all facilities and maintenance work at The Spitfire Ground.
  • Team Oversight
    Allocate and monitor the work of maintenance assistants and visiting contractors.
    Responsible for the vetting and approving of contractors.
  • Health & Safety Compliance
    Ensure all maintenance staff and contractors adhere to Kent Cricket’s Health & Safety standards.
    Conduct regular inspections and testing of building equipment and systems to ensure health and safety standards at the premises.
    Assisting in the development of risk assessments and safe working procedures for the maintenance department.
  • Hands-On Maintenance
    Perform routine maintenance tasks and emergency repairs as required.
  • Budget Management
    Take full responsibility for managing the Facilities & Maintenance budget.
  • Ground Cleanliness
    Manage and maintain ground cleanliness, including performing litter-picking duties as
    necessary.
  • Service Agreements Management
    Oversee service agreements for Mechanical & Electrical systems, Cleaning, Security, Fire Safety, and other facilities-related contracts.
  • Additional Site Support
    Occasionally travel to other Kent Cricket playing sites to undertake maintenance or facilities tasks.
  • Match Day Support
    Be available to work on match days, including weekends, evenings, and Bank Holidays.
  • Ad Hoc Duties
    Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the COO

Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes:

  • Proven experience in maintenance and facilities management, preferably in a sports or events venue.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and oversee multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Sound understanding of Health & Safety regulations, Fire and Building regulations and compliance standards.
  • Hands-on technical skills, with the ability to perform maintenance and emergency repairs effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience in managing budgets and controlling costs.
  • Ability to manage and lead a small team, as well as work collaboratively with contractors.
  • Must have valid UK driving license, and own vehicle
  • Previous experience working in a cricket or sports environment.
  • Knowledge of facilities management systems and software.
  • Relevant qualifications in maintenance, facilities management, or Health & Safety. NEBOSH Certificate desirable.
  • Comfortable using technology, e.g. laptop, for administrative purposes, with the requisite IT skills required for these tasks.
