Several senior players will miss this series, with Pat Cummins, Travis Head, and Mitchell Starc set to return home following the Test series in the Caribbean. Notably absent from the squad are Xavier Bartlett, Jake Fraser-McGurk, and Marcus Stoinis.
Momentum ahead of T20 World Cup 2025
Australia has won 12 of their last 14 T20 matches, continuing a strong run of form in the format as they build toward the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka next year.
George Bailey, Chair of Selectors: “We have a busy T20 schedule coming up through this Series, followed by three against South Africa and New Zealand and five matches against India at home as we continue to refine and build a squad we think will be the right fit for the World Cup on the subcontinent.”
Bailey emphasized that there are still opportunities for fringe players to force their way into World Cup contention through the upcoming Big Bash and series against India.
Bailey added: “The connection, role development and combinations we will have as options are growing nicely as we build towards the World Cup. It’s an exciting time in our T20 space.”
