Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will participate in the upcoming ICC Board of Directors meeting through video conference rather than travelling to Ahmedabad in person, according to a report by NDTV. The meeting, scheduled alongside the IPL 2026 final weekend, is expected to bring together senior cricket administrators from across the global game as discussions continue around governance and international scheduling matters.
The report also stated that Naqvi was not invited to attend the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad. The development followed earlier Geo News reporting that the PCB Chief had received invitations for both the ICC meetings and the IPL final, with a decision on potential travel expected to rest with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
ICC meetings moved from Doha to Ahmedabad
The ICC’s quarterly meetings were initially scheduled to take place in Doha earlier this year before being postponed because of the ongoing situation in West Asia. The revised schedule includes a virtual Chief Executives’ Committee meeting, followed by in-person Board discussions in Ahmedabad during the IPL final weekend.
Reports around Naqvi’s possible attendance in India had drawn attention because PCB representatives would ordinarily be expected to participate in major ICC Board gatherings in person. However, political tensions between India and Pakistan, along with the strained relationship between the BCCI and PCB in recent years, had created uncertainty around whether such a visit would materialise.
Virtual attendance provision remains available
Naqvi’s participation through video conference falls within existing ICC procedures available to Board representatives unable to travel for meetings in person. He is also understood to be among three members expected to join the discussions virtually.
The Board gathering is expected to carry significance for the wider cricket calendar, including ongoing conversations around the future structure of international competitions and governance matters within the sport. Holding the meetings during the IPL final weekend has also increased attention around administrative participation from major cricketing nations.
India-Pakistan cricket relations remain under scrutiny
Speculation surrounding Naqvi’s possible presence in Ahmedabad emerged against the backdrop of continuing friction between cricket authorities in India and Pakistan. Administrative disagreements between the BCCI and PCB have intensified over recent years across multiple issues, including tournament arrangements and broader bilateral relations.
One of the most closely discussed flashpoints came after the Asia Cup final in Dubai, where tensions reportedly surfaced during the post-match trophy presentation involving Indian players and Naqvi in his role as Asian Cricket Council President. The episode further highlighted the uneasy administrative relationship between the two boards despite ongoing ICC-level engagement.
