The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will provide an additional USD 100,000 each to six high-profile foreign players in PSL franchises to secure their availability for the league. This amount will come from a special fund, which has grown to USD one million.
During the PSL draft, the PCB set a maximum base salary of USD 200,000 per overseas player for franchises. “David Warner, for example, came onboard for a fee of USD 300,000, and USD 100,000 of this will be paid to him by the PCB from the special fund,” a PSL official stated, according to NDTV.
The official further explained that the PSL governing council had decided that when the central pool’s net broadcast revenue reached 3 billion rupees, USD 500,000 would be allocated annually for elite players’ salaries. As the additional amount was not utilized last year, the fund has now accumulated to USD one million.
This fund will help cover payments for elite players signed during the draft. Several overseas players unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, such as David Warner, Daryl Mitchell, Kane Williamson, Finn Allen, Matthew Short, Sean Abbott, Nahid Rana, Liton Das, Michael Bracewell, Rassie van der Dussen, and Bosch, were recruited by PSL franchises.
For the first time, the PSL is scheduled alongside the IPL, with overlapping timelines. The PSL will run from April 17 to May 22, while the IPL takes place from March 21 to late May.
Previously, the highest-paid players in PSL history were Kieron Pollard (USD 250,000) and AB de Villiers (USD 230,000).
