Pakistan’s disappointing early exit from the 2025 Champions Trophy has not only drawn heavy criticism toward the players but has also put PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi under intense scrutiny. Calls for his removal have intensified, with National Assembly Opposition Leader and PTI politician Omar Ayub among those demanding his resignation.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Ayub held Naqvi responsible for the team’s poor performance in the tournament, urging the management to remove him following “repeated failures,” as reported by Geo News.

The Champions Trophy marked Pakistan’s first opportunity to host an ICC event in 29 years, raising expectations among fans. However, the Men in Green suffered back-to-back defeats against New Zealand and India in the group stage, crashing out of the tournament within just five days. Their final match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi has now become inconsequential, as both teams have already been eliminated.

Pakistan’s struggles in ICC tournaments have been ongoing. In the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup in India, the team managed only four wins in nine matches, finishing fifth with just eight points and failing to reach the knockouts. Their poor form continued in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the group stage after consecutive losses to the United States and India.

Hopes of progressing in the Champions Trophy had rested on Bangladesh defeating New Zealand, but the Kiwis secured a five-wicket victory in Rawalpindi, sealing their spot in the semi-finals alongside India.

With another ICC tournament disappointment, pressure is mounting on Naqvi, and his future as PCB chairman remains uncertain amid growing calls for change.
