The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has strongly denied what it describes as “baseless, fabricated, and defamatory” allegations circulating on social media regarding an alleged incident involving Shaheen Shah Afridi, team captain Salman Ali Agha, and a member of the national team’s coaching staff.

In an official statement, the PCB affirmed that “no such incident has occurred” during any training or practice session, and labeled the rumors as part of a “calculated and reprehensible attempt” to undermine the cohesion and morale of the Pakistan national team.

PCB to pursue legal action over false allegations

The board confirmed that it would initiate stringent legal proceedings — including defamation and cybercrime charges — against those responsible for originating or spreading the allegations:

“Such misinformation constitutes a serious and premeditated defamation campaign aimed at damaging the professional integrity of the individuals targeted and the environment of the squad,” the statement read.

The PCB added that “any persons found complicit” will be held accountable under applicable laws.

Call for media and public restraint

The board also issued a strong warning to the public and media outlets, urging all parties to avoid engaging with or amplifying unverified content:

“The PCB strongly advises the general public, media representatives, and digital platforms to refrain from endorsing or circulating unverified and irresponsible content,” it said.

Emphasizing its commitment to the well-being of players and staff, the PCB stated that it would continue to protect the “sanctity of the national team” from “unwarranted and harmful speculation.”
