PCB, New Zealand Cricket in talks over 2027 Pakistan Test tour as PSL, Ramadan complicate schedule

The two boards are working to finalise dates and venues for a two-match World Test Championship series, with a limited window available before the Pakistan Super League begins in March.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and New Zealand Cricket (NZC) are negotiating the dates and venues for New Zealand’s two-Test tour of Pakistan in February–March 2027, with Ramadan and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) creating scheduling challenges, according to a report by Geo News.

The series forms part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 cycle, but the two boards have yet to announce a final fixture schedule or confirm which stadiums will host the matches.

Discussions are continuing as both organisations attempt to accommodate their existing commitments within a relatively narrow period of the international calendar.

PSL and New Zealand fixtures limit scheduling options

New Zealand’s home series against Sri Lanka is scheduled to conclude in Hamilton on February 16, limiting the window available for their subsequent Pakistan tour.

At the other end of the proposed window, the 2027 PSL is scheduled to begin on March 18, with team activities expected to commence three days earlier, on March 15.

That leaves the PCB and NZC working around two established commitments while determining when the Test matches can be staged.

Ramadan adds another consideration, with at least one of the two Tests potentially taking place during the holy month.

The final schedule will therefore need to balance both teams’ availability with the operational requirements of hosting international cricket during Ramadan.

World Test Championship points at stake

Beyond the scheduling negotiations, the series represents another opportunity for Pakistan to improve their position in the current World Test Championship cycle.

Pakistan sit at the bottom of the WTC standings after recording two wins and seven defeats in nine Tests, including a recent 3-0 series loss to England.

Babar Azam has returned as Pakistan’s Test Captain in place of Shan Masood, with the national side seeking better results in the longer format.

Before New Zealand’s visit, Pakistan are scheduled to host Sri Lanka for two Tests in Rawalpindi and Lahore from November 9 to 21, providing an earlier opportunity to collect championship points.

The New Zealand series will form part of the closing stages of the 2025–27 WTC cycle, increasing the importance of both matches for Pakistan’s campaign.

Official dates and venues still to be confirmed

Although February–March 2027 remains the planned period for New Zealand’s visit, the precise dates and host venues are still under discussion.

The PCB and NZC are expected to announce the fixtures once consultations are complete, with the PSL calendar, New Zealand’s international commitments and Ramadan among the factors influencing the final arrangements.
