The PCB has reached out to the ICC, seeking clarification over the omission of Pakistan’s name from the Champions Trophy branding during the live broadcast of India’s match against Bangladesh in Dubai. Throughout the game, which India won by six wickets, the broadcast displayed the Champions Trophy 2025 logo in the top left corner, but without mentioning Pakistan as the host nation.
This discrepancy was not present in previous tournament matches, including Pakistan’s opener against New Zealand in Karachi and the game between Afghanistan and South Africa. In those instances, both the event name and Pakistan’s hosting role were clearly visible. PCB, reportedly dissatisfied with the situation, has requested assurances that such an omission will not happen again.
The ICC has responded, stating that the incident was the result of an early technical error. However, the PCB remains unconvinced, as the graphics for tournament broadcasts are prepared well in advance under ICC’s supervision, with UK-based production company Sunset & Vine handling the live feed. Since Pakistan’s name was included in the branding for the tournament opener, PCB questions why the issue arose specifically during the India-Bangladesh game.
In response, the ICC has assured PCB that this was a one-time glitch and will not affect future games, whether they take place in Pakistan or the UAE. The next fixture in Dubai, which will see India face off against Pakistan on Sunday, is expected to be the tournament’s most anticipated match.
This controversy comes amid broader tensions surrounding the tournament’s hosting arrangements. Pakistan had initially insisted on hosting all matches after being awarded full hosting rights by the ICC. However, the BCCI informed PCB that the Indian government would not permit its team to travel to Pakistan, leading to negotiations that resulted in a compromise.
