Following consecutive pitch invasions in Rawalpindi and Lahore, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has emphasized its commitment to stricter security protocols at all Champions Trophy 2025 venues.
The first breach took place at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium during the New Zealand vs. Bangladesh match when a spectator ran onto the field to embrace Rachin Ravindra. Security personnel swiftly apprehended the intruder, who was later arrested and permanently banned from all cricket venues in Pakistan. Reports indicated that the individual was carrying a photograph of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan leader Saad Rizvi.
A second incident occurred in Lahore, disrupting Afghanistan’s victory celebrations after their win against England. While the celebratory mood remained, this breach exposed ongoing security vulnerabilities, increasing pressure on the PCB to take immediate action.
The board responded with a strong commitment to reinforcing security, stating, “The PCB has taken serious note of the security breach that occurred yesterday when a spectator entered the field of play. Ensuring the safety of players and officials remains our top priority. As a responsible organisation, we have engaged with local security agencies, who have committed to increasing security personnel around the field of play at all venues and strengthening access control measures.”
The statement further added, “The individual involved was arrested and presented before a court of law today (Tuesday). In addition, he has been permanently banned from entering all cricket venues in Pakistan. To prevent such incidents in the future, the PCB is working closely with security agencies and venue authorities to review and reinforce security protocols.”
Hosting a major ICC event for the first time since the 1996 World Cup, Pakistan is under scrutiny to ensure smooth operations and player safety. These incidents have intensified concerns, prompting urgent security enhancements across all tournament venues.
