Perth Scorchers skipper Ashton Turner led from the front with bat and ball during Perth’s first intrasquad practice match of the season at Scotch College today, as preparations ramp up for the 2022-23 KFC Big Bash League season.

Turner’s most telling contribution came during Super Over simulation when he blasted 19 from five deliveries and faced a wide, hauling in the 20-run target with a ball to spare.

Earlier in the day, Turner claimed 2-21 from three overs of off-spin and cleared the ropes while batting in the first innings.

Top-order batter Nick Hobson pushed his case for an early-season berth, scoring 34 from 24 (three sixes) and seven from two (one six) during the Super Over.

Cam Bancroft (30 from 19; three fours, two sixes) was also productive atop the order, while hard-hitting allrounder Aaron Hardie (29 from 17; two fours, two sixes) scored freely at No.3.

With ball in hand, leg-spinner Peter Hatzoglou collected three wickets after travelling from Melbourne to Perth on Wednesday afternoon.

Ashton Agar, AJ Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Matt Kelly and Jhye Richardson sat out the scratch match, but all available Scorchers are expected to play in a second intrasquad contest tomorrow.

Perth will begin their BBL|12 campaign with a Grand Final rematch against Sydney Sixers at Optus Stadium on 17 December, in a match themed ‘Home of the Champions’.
