The Pakistan Super League 11 final will be staged in front of spectators at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium after approval was granted to allow fans for the tournament’s closing match, with Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, confirming the development following discussions with government leadership. The final is scheduled for May 3 and will mark the only fixture of the season to feature a live crowd.
Earlier restrictions and policy reversal
PSL 11 matches had been played behind closed doors in Karachi and Lahore under nationwide austerity measures aimed at reducing fuel consumption during a period of regional tension, as previously reported by cricexec. Those restrictions were implemented before the tournament began, limiting public attendance and travel as part of a broader resource conservation strategy. A PCB official, speaking to Dawn on condition of anonymity, indicated that there had been sustained pressure from both franchise stakeholders and the wider public to permit spectators earlier in the tournament.
Naqvi outlines approval process
Explaining the sequence of events behind the approval to allow spectators for the PSL 11 final, Naqvi wrote on X, “Dear cricket fans, I requested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to allow spectators in the stadiums [for PSL]. While he was also inclined to permit fans, he emphasised that austerity measures are currently in place across Pakistan, with efforts underway to minimise fuel consumption,” outlining the government’s initial position. He added, “However, on the request of [the] franchise owners, he has graciously approved the presence of fans for the PSL 11 Final. I sincerely thank him for this decision and for facilitating the fans.”

Demand surge expected for limited-capacity final
Interest among supporters is expected to exceed the 24,000-seat capacity of Gaddafi Stadium following confirmation that fans will be permitted for the final. Highlighting the anticipated challenge of securing access, Mohammad Usman told Dawn, “I did not miss any PSL staged in Lahore. [Therefore], I am passionate to watch the final but it is not easy to get the tickets because the 24,000-capacity stadium cannot handle the expected response from the crowd,” underscoring the scale of demand for the season finale.
