Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved public attendance for all Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 playoff matches, marking a significant policy shift after earlier restrictions kept fixtures behind closed doors. The decision was confirmed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi following discussions with the government, allowing spectators to return for the final phase of the tournament.
Government approval signals shift from earlier restrictions
The approval represents a reversal from the initial stance taken ahead of PSL 11 when matches were scheduled without crowds as part of nationwide austerity measures aimed at reducing fuel consumption, as previously reported by cricexec. Those measures also led to logistical adjustments, including limiting venues to Karachi and Lahore and scaling back non-essential activities around the tournament.
The latest development follows engagement between the PCB and federal leadership, with growing pressure from stakeholders and fans contributing to the change in approach.
Naqvi confirms approval and outlines conditions
Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman, confirmed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Just had a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and I’m pleased to share that we have secured his approval for public attendance in all three PSL playoff matches as well.” The update formally confirmed that all remaining playoff fixtures will now be played in front of spectators.

He also highlighted a condition attached to the approval, adding: “However, this comes with an important condition from his side that fans are strongly encouraged to use public transport or minimize fuel consumption while attending the matches, in line with the ongoing national austerity efforts.” The requirement aligns with broader government efforts to manage energy usage during the ongoing period of constraint.
Qualifier ticket details confirmed for Karachi
The PCB has also released ticketing information for the Qualifier scheduled in Karachi, outlining pricing and access arrangements for spectators. The match, featuring Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi, is set to take place at the National Bank Stadium with evening start times confirmed.
In an official press release, the PCB stated: “Fans in Karachi will be able to enjoy the match by buying a ticket worth PKR 500 (Five Hundred Only) for all the enclosures of National Bank Stadium, Karachi.” The board also issued guidance for attendees, noting: “Fans are requested to head to the stadium well before the start of play to avoid any inconvenience.”
Final to be staged with spectators in Lahore
The return of crowds for the playoffs follows confirmation that the PSL 11 final will also be played in front of spectators at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, as previously reported by cricexec. The final is scheduled for May 3 and is expected to draw significant demand following the broader reopening of matches to fans.
Naqvi, a day earlier, addressing the final in a post on X, said: “Dear cricket fans, I requested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to allow spectators in the stadiums [for PSL].” He added: “However, on the request of [the] franchise owners, he has graciously approved the presence of fans for the PSL 11 Final. I sincerely thank him for this decision and for facilitating the fans.” The update formed part of the broader sequence of decisions around fan attendance for the tournament’s closing stages.
Dear cricket fans, I requested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to allow spectators in the stadiums. While he was also inclined to permit fans, he emphasized that austerity measures are currently in place across Pakistan, with efforts underway to minimize fuel consumption.

Tournament enters decisive phase with fans returning
With spectators now permitted across both playoff matches and the final, PSL 11 enters its concluding stage with renewed fan engagement after a season shaped by operational constraints. The shift is expected to enhance the matchday environment while maintaining alignment with government guidelines on energy conservation.
