Rashid Khan has become the all-time leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket, surpassing Dwayne Bravo, as MI Cape Town secured a place in the SA20 final with a 39-run victory over Paarl Royals in Gqeberha.
The Afghan spinner took 2-33, taking his tally to 633 wickets—two more than Bravo, who retired with 631 wickets. Rashid’s milestone came in just 461 matches at an average of 18.07, compared to Bravo’s 582 games at 24.40.
With 161 wickets in T20 internationals and 472 across domestic and franchise leagues, Rashid has left his mark with teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans, Adelaide Strikers, Sussex Sharks, and Trent Rockets.
Reflecting on the achievement, Rashid said, “I never thought about it ten years back. Being from Afghanistan, it’s a great feeling at the top of the table. You know, DJ is one of the best T20 bowlers, so it’s a great honour and I am looking forward to continuing it.”
Earlier, MI Cape Town posted 199-4 before bowling out the Royals for 160. With this win, they advance to the SA20 final on February 8. Meanwhile, Paarl Royals will get another shot at qualification when they face the winner of Wednesday’s eliminator between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings.
