Australia’s Shaun Tait has been appointed as Bangladesh’s new fast-bowling coach, marking a high-profile addition to the team’s backroom staff ahead of a packed international calendar and crucial ICC tournament build-ups. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced that Tait’s contract will run until November 2027, signaling a long-term investment in fast-bowling development.

Andre Adams exits after brief stint

Tait replaces former New Zealand pacer Andre Adams, who joined in March 2024. His tenure ended by mutual agreement following Bangladesh’s campaigns in the ICC T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year.

Bangladesh looks to experienced hands for key tournaments

With the 2026 T20 World Cup and 2027 ODI World Cup on the horizon, Bangladesh is reinforcing its coaching unit to drive better performances across all formats. Tait’s experience is seen as a vital asset as the team faces a busy period of T20Is, ODIs, and Test matches this summer.

Global coaching resume and World Cup pedigree

Tait played 59 internationals for Australia from 2005 to 2016 and was part of the squad that won the 2007 ODI World Cup. Known as one of the fastest bowlers in cricket history, he has also coached national teams like Pakistan, West Indies, and Afghanistan. Additionally, his experience spans leagues such as the Big Bash League (BBL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), Lanka Premier League (LPL), and county cricket in England.

Previous connection with Bangladesh players

The appointment reunites Tait with several Bangladeshi pacers, including Shoriful Islam and Khaled Ahmed, whom he worked with during his time as head coach of BPL franchise Chittagong Kings. His familiarity with the players may help accelerate the group’s progress at the international level.

“It’s a good time to be involved with the Bangladesh cricket team right now, a bit of a new era if you like,” Tait said. “It’s been spoken about many times recently – the young talent with the fast bowlers – which is great. This is international cricket, not a development team, and everyone expects the talent to bring results, which is very much my focus with the fast-bowling group and most importantly, getting more wins for the team. To have the opportunity to work with [head coach] Phil Simmons is equally as exciting and I’m looking forward to the journey ahead.”

Strategic appointment signals long-term vision

By handing Tait a contract through late 2027, the BCB has made clear its focus on continuity and structure within the national fast-bowling unit. With ongoing investments in youth and fitness infrastructure, Tait is expected to be instrumental in converting emerging pace talent into match-winning contributors.

The addition of Tait underlines Bangladesh’s ambition to compete more consistently on the world stage, with head coach Phil Simmons now leading a support team stacked with international experience and expertise.
