JOHANNESBURG: Proteas Men’s head coach Shukri Conrad has announced the 15-player squad for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025 against Australia, scheduled from 11–15 June at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
Temba Bavuma will captain the team, with a potent pace attack led by Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson (World Sports Betting Western Province), and Lungi Ngidi, who returns to the Test setup for the first time since October 2024.
The bowling unit also includes all-rounders Marco Jansen, Wiaan Mulder, and Corbin Bosch (Momentum Multiply Titans). Spin duties will be handled by Keshav Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy.
The top order features a solid mix of experience and youth, including Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, and David Bedingham. Kyle Verreynne, instrumental in helping South Africa reach the final, will serve as the squad’s wicketkeeper.
Conrad emphasizes balance and continuity
“Firstly, I want to congratulate each of the players selected for this squad. It is a special moment for this group to contest the WTC Final,” said head coach Shukri Conrad.
“Over the past 18 months, we’ve worked hard to build a competitive red-ball unit, and this achievement reflects that progress. A key part of our success has been consistency in selection, and we’ve stuck with the core group of players who have been part of this WTC cycle.”
Conrad added, “We’ve selected a balanced squad for the conditions we expect at Lord’s. I’m particularly pleased to welcome Lungi back into the side. He’s put in the work and offers us an experienced option with the ball.”
Preparation and warm-up match details
The Proteas squad will assemble in Arundel on 31 May and will face Zimbabwe in a warm-up match from 03–06 June. The team will then travel to London on 07 June ahead of the final.
