Sri Lanka Cricket affirms financial health amid social media speculation
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has strongly refuted recent claims circulating on social media suggesting the board is facing a financial crisis, labeling them as “unfounded and misleading.”
In an official statement, SLC confirmed that it maintains strong and stable finances, with adequate resources to manage both daily operations and long-term strategic initiatives.
SLC gearing up to co-host ICC T20 World Cup 2026 and Women’s World Cup 2025
As proof of its financial and operational stability, SLC is actively preparing to co-host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 alongside India, and to host 11 matches of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 in Sri Lanka this September.
“Such comprehensive planning and execution are only possible with sound financial backing,” the statement read.
Infrastructure upgrades and green energy project underway
To support these global events, international cricket venues across Sri Lanka are undergoing upgrades and refurbishments to meet ICC standards. These infrastructure developments are part of SLC’s long-term vision to enhance the nation’s standing as a global cricketing hub.
In tandem with venue upgrades, SLC has launched a Solar Power Project across its venues as part of a broader sustainability push. This ‘Green Initiative’ is expected to deliver a strong return on investment while contributing to environmental goals and the financial sustainability of the organization.
Grassroots and player development programs remain a top priority
Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that its core programs, including the National Pathway Program and grassroots development initiatives, continue to run without interruption. These programs are critical to the long-term competitiveness and growth of Sri Lankan cricket.
