Stuart Law, former Australia batter and 1996 Cricket World Cup runner-up, has been appointed as the head coach of Nepal’s men’s team on a two-year contract. He takes over from Monty Desai, whose tenure concluded after the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) opted not to extend his contract.
Law most recently coached the United States, leading them to a historic Super 8 finish in their debut Twenty20 World Cup appearance last year. His tenure was brief, lasting just six months, but included a remarkable victory over Pakistan—one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history. Before his stint with the USA, Law also held coaching roles with the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
Nepal has key international assignments ahead, with World Cup League 2 fixtures against Scotland and the Netherlands in June as they pursue qualification for the 2027 Cricket World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Later in October, they will enter the qualification race for the 2026 T20 World Cup, aiming for a stronger performance after finishing at the bottom of their group in the 2024 edition with just one point.
Beyond his coaching career, the 56-year-old Law had an extensive playing career, featuring in 54 ODIs and one Test for Australia. He also played county cricket in England with Essex and Lancashire and was previously the head coach at Middlesex before joining the USA setup.
