North Sydney Oval confirmed as long-term home for Sixers women’s team

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – The Sydney Sixers have extended their partnership with North Sydney Council, securing North Sydney Oval as the official home ground of their WBBL side for the next five years, through the 2029 season.

The venue has served as the Sixers’ women’s cricket home for over a decade and is widely regarded as the spiritual home of women’s cricket in Australia. Known for its heritage charm and community connection, North Sydney Oval has witnessed some of the WBBL’s most iconic moments.

A home for brilliance and history

Fans have enjoyed unforgettable performances at the venue from stars like Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy, and Ashleigh Gardner, whose blistering 114 off 52 balls remains one of the most celebrated innings in league history.

The ground has also hosted world-class international talent including Sophie Ecclestone and Amelia Kerr. This season, the WBBL’s #1 Draft pick Sophia Dunkley is expected to make her Sixers debut at the historic venue.

Fan-favorite fixtures return to North Sydney Oval

In a win for supporters, the Sydney Smash between the Sixers and crosstown rivals Sydney Thunder returns to North Sydney Oval this year after a two-season stint at the SCG as part of the league’s ‘Stadium Series’ initiative.

“North Sydney Oval remains one of the country’s most iconic grounds. The venue is synonymous with women’s cricket,” said Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes. “It has served as the backdrop to so many highlights in our club’s history. It truly feels like home.”

Haynes also praised the support from North Sydney Council: “We’re proud to continue our partnership and deliver unforgettable experiences for our fans at this special venue.”

North Sydney Oval reaffirmed as a leader in women’s sport

North Sydney Mayor Zoë Baker added: “This new agreement reinforces North Sydney Oval’s status as one of Australia’s premier cricket venues. We’re proud to support women’s sport and to host matches that inspire the next generation.”

The ground’s continued use as a premier WBBL venue underscores its lasting importance to Australian cricket, particularly in championing gender equality and promoting elite women’s sport in one of the game’s most cherished locations.
